I'm a proud Portlander who believes our local news should always focus on what impacts our neighborhoods. You won't catch me discussing national politics, but I'll gladly debate the best way to keep the rain out of your house.

Thinking about upgrading my water heater. While the upfront cost of a tankless system is higher, the idea of never running out of hot water during a Portland rainstorm is pretty appealing. Plus, less energy waste means more money for local craft beer!

Tankless seems like the way to go for efficiency, but make sure you size it right for your needs. I've seen folks in Raleigh underestimate how much hot water a shower and dishwasher running simultaneously can use, especially if you're also trying to do laundry. Over-sizing can negate some of the energy savings, and under-sizing means you're back to waiting for hot water.
